BPRM Indoor Games Competition 2011

TO ALL LEO CLUB MEMBERS.
Some of you may have heard/or are already helping out with the BPRM Indoor Games Competition 2011 in MCKL. I've just spoken to Phoebe, and we are planning to partner them and help out with the above event.
The details of the Indoor Games Competition 2011 are as follows:

Date: 12th November 2011 (Saturday)
Time: 9a.m.-4p.m.
Venue: MCKL
Number of people: 200+ participants and 65+ volunteers.
Participants are the Myanmar refugees (age from 5-18) and Myanmar teachers. They are from various schools for refugees in Malaysia.

BTW, this event is recognised as part of your mandatory 10 hour COMMUNITY SERVICE.

The LEO Club will be organising more game booths for the children, sponsoring prizes for the competition, and help with out the arrangement of the tables and chairs in the hall prior to the event.

The Mynmar children are refugees registered under the United Nations. Malaysia is similar to a transition phase for them. They will remain in Malaysia, until the United Nations ships them off to other countries-- like the US or Australia.

Basically most of these refugees are oppressed by Malaysians, especially those in authority. They are subject to various forms of oppression such as caning, detention, extortion and so on.

As the LEO Club is a service club, we strongly believe in giving back to the community. As such, we will try to help out these Mynmar refugees, and show them love and respect.

Blood Donation Drive

Hello!

So what's our first project after the formation we had last Saturday?

Well, the Leo Club of Metro MCKL (O) will be organising a BLOOD DONATION DRIVE!

LEO FORMATION!

Hi guys! :D

Sooooo, you’ve attended a few of our general meetings right now, and what comes after that?

Well guys, we have our LEO formation coming up! And it’s this COMING SATURDAY, from 10.30-1.30pm.

It’s going to be really AMAZING! We have invited Leo Clubs from all over Malaysia, and even Singapore! Which means, FELLOWSHIP TIME!

The theme is Genesis, which in Hebrew means beginning, or starting.

We chose this theme simply because we just started the Leo Club of MCKL (O), and the word Genesis symbolizes the new beginning of our club.

We’ve finally ironed out all the details of our formation, and here they are!

Date: 13^th of August 2011

Time: 10.30-1.30pm

Venue: Auditorium of Methodist College KL

Theme: Genesis

Price: RM 5 for members, RM 15 for non- members

Uniform: Formal/club uniform

Leo Club :)

Hi guys! This is our first blog post  :) 

            For all you curious people out there, you’ve just wandered into the Leo Club of Metro Methodist College KL (O) blog. Roar, roar, ROAR! The Leo Club of Metro Methodist College KL (O) is a BRAND NEW CLUB and was founded by our current president, Leo Shaun Philip Thomas! We’ve just elected our board, and the list of all the board members and their posts can be found on the extreme left of the blog.

What is this Leo Club that you’re talking about?

            A baseball coach from Abington High School, Pennsylvania, USA started the world’s first Leo Club with help from his fellow Lion, William Ernst. Thus, the first Leo Club was chartered on December 5^th, 1957. 

            As the pioneering Leo Club, the Abington High School Leos decided to adopt the school colours as the official Leo Club colours. The acronym LEO was decided by them as well, and it stood for Leadership, Equality, Opportunity. However, after a number of years equality was substituted with the word Experience.

            Fast forwarding ten years, the Leo Club Program was adopted by the Lions Club International board of directors. Fifty four years later, the Leo Club Program is still going strong- with more clubs formed every year.

So, what is the main aim of the Leo Club?

            The objective of this club is "...to provide the youth of the world (with) an opportunity for development and contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community."

            How does the Leo Club go around doing this? Simple! The Leo Club encourages youths to develop leadership qualities by involving themselves with social service activities. Basically, Leo Club is a social service club. More than half a century later, community service still remains as the primary focus of this program.

And what do you do?

            Basically what members of the Leo Club do is that they will conduct various projects throughout the year. These projects cover a wide range of fields such as healthcare, children, education, literacy and such.

            To conduct such projects, we’ll be needing lots of funds. In order to raise funds, Leo Clubs often organise fund-raisers such as auctions, concerts, movie nights and so on. The list is endless! 

            Earlier on in my post, I’ve mentioned how the Leo Club is essentially a social service club. Our club is no exception either. The board has been planning a couple of big projects for the coming year. I can’t spill out all the details here, cause you’ll need to attend the meetings to find out. So be prepared prospective Leos! 

            Should you choose to join this club, you will be given the chance to carry out various projects throughout the year. These projects which range from concerts, to fun fairs, or even community service will be handled by various Leo members who have been elected by the board of directors. Projects such as these will test not only your leadership abilities, but also your organisational skills and resourcefulness. 

            Besides that, Leos are also given the chance to meet other members of Leo Clubs from adjacent districts or colleges through social projects and functions. What other club allows you to make new friends from other colleges and districts, attend social functions, AND still consider it to be a legitimate part of the club’s activities? 

What is the purpose of this club?

            The stated purpose of this club is ‘To promote service activities among the youth of the community which will develop the individual qualities of Leadership, Experience and Opportunity. To unite its members in friendship, fellowship and mutual understanding.’

       

How do I join?

            On the second week of college, we’ll be opening club registration to all students of Methodist College Kuala Lumpur. All you have to do is find one of the registration booths that we’ll set up throughout the week, and sign up. That’s all! Easy isn’t it?
